Countless Calories but it's OK

Saturday was wonderful.

Aside from the fact that it snowed.

Jenna and I went to the farmer's market first thing in the morning and headed out to the spring Make It craft sale with one of our other roommates, Alana.  We had the best day.

Craft sales are so fun.  I love all things artisan and local.  There is beautiful jewelry, vintage inspired artwork, delicious sweets, re-purposed leather, all natural soaps, and the list goes on.  Jenna and I hit up all the craft sales, and we've scored some amazing treasures.  The craft sale was located at the Enjoy Centre just outside of town, which is home to a giant greenhouse.  We picked up some gardening tools for the front garden and some potted blooms for our home.

We all went on with our respective days, but gathered again in the evening to make some treats.

I was pretty set on making peanut butter Easter eggs.

At first they looked more like chicken nuggets than anything.

And wha-la.  I certainly am no chocolate-dipping connoisseur but they are pretty dang tasty!

Alana just purchased a creme brulee set.  Making this fancy dessert was quite a process! It involved a lot of stirring, and freezing, and stirring. She made a white chocolate and raspberry creme brulee.  Torched the top and everything.  It was so delicious.

I mean, look at that!

Conference Weekend

Conference weekend is the best.

I absolutely LOVE General Conference.  Every year it gets better and better.  I feel so  uplifted,  at peace,  and excited about the Gospel.  It is such a testimony builder that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is lead by Prophets, Seers, and Revelators.

In Edmonton, the church bookstore hosts a women's night out for the sisters while all the men are attending the Priesthood session.  There are snacks and draws for prizes.  Guess who won a Joseph Smith tea light candle?  Yup.  Me.

My lovely roommate Jenna and I made chicken and waffles in between the Sunday sessions.  I certainly am no food photographer.  But they were fantastic.

Post conference, my wonderful grandma hosted a family dinner -- which I appreciated even more today after the reminder that the family is the most important social unit in time and eternity.

Conference weekend is the best.  I am already looking forward to October.

The Couch Cushion Girl

It was a cold Sunday morning in December.  I was getting ready to make my way to church but could not find my keys anywhere.  I searched the house.   I checked in the drawers, on tabletops, couch cushions, boxes, coat pockets, the garbage . . . I looked everywhere.  I looked for hours.

I couldn't find my keys.  My oh-so-sweet and wonderful sister took the bus all the way to my house with my spare set despite the fact that she was quite sick and it was freezing outside.  We made it to the last hour of our church meetings and went back home to search the house again for my missing keys.

I did not find my keys that day, but I did find a photo of a mysterious girl nestled in the cushions of our arm chair.  I asked my roommates about the photo.  Where did it come from?  Who is she?  What's her story?  No one knew.  The picture sat there on the table for weeks.  I didn't know what to do with it, and I couldn't bear the thought of throwing it away.

So, the 50's girl now sits framed on the coffee table.

And for the record, my keys are still missing.
